This rings so VERY true. It is one of the reasons why I am so happy to have made aliyah at this time in my life and to be living here in Tzfat where opportunites abound for growth, no matter what age you are.

The overall sentiments are powerful ones and dispell the Western notion that at a certain age you are “past it”. As such, the story of Rav Shach z"l is unfathomable and appears to contradict rather than support the article. - Why would he want you to stop the new insight?!
After all, he was a Talmid Chacham and like all Talmidei Chachamim they are called such (and not Chachamim) because they are always “students of learning” which clearly Rav Shach z"l was. (zarich iyun).
